Golden Cardinal

$80.00
Sold Out

Dimensions: 8”x10”

Did you know that yellow cardinals actually exist in the wild?! When I drew this bird, I just thought I was being creative and replacing red feathers for golden ones. Instead, I was just drawing a mutation with some shine added to it. We typically know cardinals for their beautiful red feathers, but an extremely rare mutation in the wild is the red feathers never fully develop their color and they stay yellow.

My cousin inspired me to draw this bird as part of my Backyard Birds collection and when I told her about it, a yellow cardinal actually showed up right in front of her! It wasn’t the animal, but it was one of the pair of birds she saw on a thermometer where the temperature went from red to yellow — the colder it got, the feathers changed to yellow!
