The Seasons Collection

This blog was originally shared as an email to my beloved newsletter subscribers on January 10, 2024.

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest.

A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up.

A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance.

A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away.

A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away.

A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak.

A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Wise words from the wisest man who’s ever lived.

Although King Solomon wrote these divinely-inspired nuggets of philosophy thousands of years ago, they ring just as true in 2024.

A few months ago, you may remember that I wrote a blog titled Changing of the Seasons, right at the tail end of summer.

That literal transition of seasons inspired me to talk about how we symbolically go through these changes in our own lives.

I wrote that blog in terms of the Embrace collection but I realize now that the art didn’t really align with the message.

Right message, wrong season.

The art wasn’t right at the time, but I can’t seem to knock the messaging.

Even my TikTok For You Page is flooded with videos of creators speaking about this concept of seasons of life.

I decided to approach my art from a different angle.

So after months of letting my pens and paper collect dust, I’m FINALLY back in the studio.

Taking King Solomon’s words to heart, I’d like to introduce you to the Seasons Collection.

This is a series of 4 botanical pieces, each one of a flower that blooms during each particular season.

Lilies for summer.

Marigolds for autumn.

Hellebores for winter.

Tulips for spring.

Each flower represents what it means and feels like to be going through that chapter of life.

The first flowers I’d like to share with you bloom during my favorite season of the year.

This pair of lilies is titled ‘Summer’ and they represent your chapter for fun, adventure, and celebration!

Summer is a time to speak, quit searching, a time to love, and a time for peace.

It’s a time to embrace, a time to laugh, and a time to dance!

For a long time, I never really celebrated my wins.

Growing up I always had a summer job.

After high school, I’d come home from college to work an internship.

After college, it was a constant stream of work.

I don’t even remember taking any time to celebrate a project ending because there was always another project to work on.

That’s when I realized our seasons of summer can’t wait until retirement!

Life is simply too short.

I learned only after burning myself out at 27 that you need to take a step back and enjoy the fruits of your labor, otherwise what’s the point?

I want these carefree lilies in full bloom to remind you to ALWAYS celebrate your progress and to reward yourself for the hard work you put into everything you do.

Treat yourself to something nice every once in a while!

I’m so excited, and quite frankly relieved because its been so long, to share new art with you.

Like I said last week, the business side of art can quickly overtake the creative part. It felt so good to get back to drawing.

Whether or not you were anticipating when I’d have new creations to share with you, thank you for your patience either way!

Over the next 3 weeks, I’ll be showcasing each piece with you and diving deep into what it means to be in a season of autumn, winter, and spring.

Stay tuned.

Would you enjoy personally addressed messages like these delivered straight to your inbox [once] every week?

Emails are my preferred form of communicating with you, where I can really let my personality shine and how I can connect with you authentically.

I also know my words are reaching you every time I type them (vs. the off-chance that the social media algorithms get me in front of you instead.)
